City Slickers

At long last we finally escaped the dog days of work, smog and traffic and headed to the mountains of Mammoth Lakes to soak up several days of luxurious fresh air and breathtaking scenery on a good old fashioned family vacation. Tate did wonderful in the car except for a loud but brief meltdown when he got too tired in the afternoon. It seriously lasted two minutes tops and we're beginning to wonder if this child is too good to be true sometimes? In any case, we made it to Mammoth in impeccable time and allowed the adventures to unfold....

Lunch stop somewhere in the middle of the desert where we were lucky to find one lonely gas station with a glorious Subway attached...thank you, person who realized we might be needing more than just a Snickers to continue our drive.

It's so strange but you leave the giant city of Los Angeles, drive through a lot of desolate land and small towns and end up a mere five hours later in mouth dropping beauty.

So to our surprise and amusement, we just happened to go to Mammoth the weekend they were holding their annual Bluesapalooza and Beer Festival! We didn't know a thing about it practically but heard the words concert, food and Blues Traveler and went running. It ended up being a lot of fun as all three of us sprawled out on our quilt for several hours of live entertainment and delicious treats. Who knows, maybe we'll make it a yearly thing?

Funny thing is we didn't even plan this photo but I happened to look over and revel in the humor of our three beverages for the evening. It's like Goldilocks and the three drinks....the middle one for me was just right.

Not only did the cooler, dry mountain air not agree with T's sensitive skin, it also didn't do too well for his hair do.

We were excited to stumble upon this beautiful park which ended up being the perfect spot for a picnic lunch...

Yes, that is snow. No, it wasn't cold out. Yes, Brandon is wearing sandals.

Alas, vacation had to end but we felt very blessed to have the opportunity to take our little boy on his first family road trip. He came back a little rosier in the cheeks but happy nonetheless!

  1. Looks like a wonderful vacation! Mammoth looks beautiful - never been, but hoping to make it up there sometime soon. You will have to fill me in on where you stayed! And by the way...you are inspiring me to maybe start a blog again ;)
